I Need You

Editorial Reviews

Barnes & Noble - Martin Huxley
The still-youthful country sweetheart looks quite comfortable staring out with a pouty glare on the cover of I Need You, and the sultry pic gives some indication of the album’s musical tone. The collection -- three of whose ten songs were penned by eminent pop tunesmith Diane Warren -- finds the artist comfortably adopting some distinctly modern sonic elements without sacrificing her tradition-steeped country roots. The title track opens the album with trip-hop-style drum samples and airy synth-bubblegummy production touches, which mesh quite comfortably with Rimes’s soaring twang and the song’s yearning lyrics. Sampled beats blend with mandolins and steel guitar on ...

Sampled beats blend with mandolins and steel guitar on the next track, the Warren-penned “But I Do Love You,” on which Rimes adopts a subtle sensuality that never seems forced. The machine beats escalate into full-on dance-pop on “You Are” and “Can’t Fight the Moonlight,” but Rimes is back on more familiar turf on the big ballads “Soon” and “Written in the Stars”; the latter track is a duet with Elton John from John and Tim Rice’s Broadway hit, Aida. The album concludes on an earnest note with Rimes’s own composition, “Together, Forever, Always,” a romantic tune that benefits from the artist’s heartfelt performance.

Awesome voice, on an awesome woman!

This is a really great cd. Hard to believe that she was on Jay Leno in March telling people not to but it 'cause it did not represent her in 2001. I say, ''You go girl!'' This cd is great. She has a beautuful voice and is very talented. ''But I Do Love You,'' ''Love Must Be Telling Me Something,'' and ''I Need You'' are amongst the best on the cd. Don't listen to her, go pick it up ASAP, NOW!

    This cd is awesome!

This cd is so great, I love every track on it! Of course, the singles on this disc sound very familiar because they were released on other projects (Elton John's cd, Coyote Ugly). However, the other six songs which are new are fantastic. I particularly loved ''Soon'' and ''I Believe in You.''
