Editorial Reviews

Publishers Weekly
Champion sports figures on a stage of their own loom large in the public's eye, particularly so when their careers end at their most spectacular peak. Michael Arkush, senior editor at Golf World magazine and bestselling author of Rush!, has written the first of a number of books soon to be released on the career, the life and the tragic death last year of Payne Stewart. I Remember Payne Stewart: Personal Memories of Golf's Most Dapper Champion, by the People Who Knew Him Best captures Stewart's life as a golfer, a son, a father and a Christian with rare photographs and the intimate recollections of about 100 people, including his friends, his fellow PGA pros, golf reporters, his sisters and his mother. Avid golfers will relish this poignant and informative tribute to a sports figure and a man whose accomplishments and ideals should be remembered.
From The Critics
Payne Stewart was a gifted professional golfer, a loving father, devoted husband, loyal friend, and a man of faith. On October 25, 1999, a plane on its way to Texas and carrying five people, crashed in a pasture in a remote area of South Dakota. The pilot and all of the passengers, including Payne Stewart, died. When he died, Stewart was enjoying his greatest year as a professional golfer as current defender of the U.S. Open, a member of the Ryder Cup Championship team, and the winner of the AT&T Celebrity ProAm in Pebble Beach. His silky golf swing and his knickers with a tamoshanter perched upon his head were all familiar trademarks of his colorful golfing persona. I Remember Payne Stewart is a tribute to his legacy as a golfer and as a human being through the comments, memories and anecdotes offered by relatives, college buddies, fellow golfers, sports reporters, and more. I Remember Payne Stewart is a striking and memorable collection of personal memories by those who knew him best and a "must read" for all Stewart fans who followed his golf course accomplishments with great enthusiasm for the man and the game.

    Save Your Time

Save your time and money on this book!! This book is nothing more than old quotes from previously written articles about Payne Stewart. After reading the Larry Guest book and the Tracy Stewart book on the life of Payne Stewart and then this book I was greatly disappointed. This book had the potential of being a great piece, if only the author would have spent time actually interviewing Payne Stewart's family, friends, golf piers, etc, rather than pulling up old achive articles and quotes. Truly a waste of time and money. Spend both by reading the Tracy Stewart book and the Larry Guest book. This book isn't even worth 1 star! Too Bad!!!
