Overview

The day I turned nineteen, I expected to gain what little freedom I could within the restrictions of my bank account and the hallucinations that had haunted me for the last six years. I expected to drive away from a life that had been dictated by the tragedy of others and shaped by the care of strangers. I expected to be alone. Actually, I relished the idea of being alone. Instead, I found fear I thought I’d overcome. Uncertainty I thought I’d painstakingly planned away. And terror that was more real than anything I’d ever hallucinated before. I’d seen terrible, fantastical, and utterly impossible things … but not love. Not until I saw him.

I enjoyed reading about Rochell and Beau and their struggles to belong. I was also happy that the story included Jade and Kandy and some of the others from the Dowser series. I can't wait for the next book in both series. I am hooked!

With every new story I read from this author I fall just a little bit more in love with her work. This was my fourth read and I've not yet been disappointed in the least. I'm not a big fan of spoilers or story recaps so... As always, her characters are interesting, full bodied and oh so human. She's takes the time to fill out and flesh out not just the characters but the setting as well. I really liked that she didn't spend a lot of time (pages) rehashing the references from previous stories, one thing I hate when reading a series! The paranormal aspects are the usual suspects for the most part, but somehow she makes them seem new, so you almost feel like your just learning about them. Such a new spin even though all the basic rules of engagement concerning the para are there. All in all just a great story! In my opinion, you could read this story and then go on to read the first 3 books in the Dowser series even though that isn't the recommended reading order. Lastly, not only do I highly recommend the book, but the whole series!

This book will suck you in! Please make sure that you read the dowser series first as there are a lot of spoilers to that particular series. They're both well worth getting into if you're into the paranormal with a romantic twist. :D

What if you could do magic but you were raised to believe that magic didn't exist? Would you learn trust no one because they might think you were crazy? This is the world Rochelle lives in, until she discovers that magic is real, she is not crazy and there is someone she can trust and maybe love. Great second series that links with the Dowser books.

Rochelle constantly repeats herself, which does make me glossover and skip ahead a lot. Got better when the other characters came into play. Sex scenes weren't bad, but had an unnatural jump into it. I could get into Rochelle and Beau more if the story didn't feel so rushed. Moved slow in beginning and just when things started to move, rush rush, it was done.

Rochelle is a distant second heroine compared to Jade. Still an enjoyable read about magic and intrigue. I might have skipped it had I known it would all about Rochelle bemoaning her"broken brain."
