Editorial Reviews

Children's Literature - Marilyn Courtot
If you are familiar with the format then there will be no surprises in this book. The text simply states what is being seen and depicts it; the objective is to find the same item in the larger picture. There does not seem to be a common thread for the items and some of the pictures are so complex that it is hard to sport the items. In particular the one with the penny, dragonfly, horsehead coin, etc. At the end there is a quiz or activity asking readers to spy matching words, items that start with specific letters, and to identify words that rhyme. It is probably fun for one or two passes and then kids would probably want to move on to something else. The back cover sums it up pretty well "See the picture. Read the clue. Play I Spy. It's fun to do!" A Level 1 book in the "Scholastic Reader" series with a guided reading level of G and a word count of 218. Reviewer: Marilyn Courtot
