Editorial Reviews

Children's Literature
Fans of hidden picture books will love this treasure-filled installment in the highly successful “I Spy” series. Simple rhymes provide readers with the clues needed to spy the various objects in the full color photographs on each spread. Some of the objects are so well hidden that they take an extensive amount of searching to find. Wick has also hidden objects in the photos that are not listed in the riddles. For example, on the first spread I could not find the dolphin, rolling pin, or hanger, but I did find a baseball, zipper, and two bobby pins. These additional objects are listed in the extra credit riddles in the back of the book. The object is to go back through the book and find the pictures which go along with them. Instructions are given on how to construct “I Spy” riddles, as well as a note on how the sets for the treasure hunt were built and photographed. A full page of foil stickers is also included. It all adds up to a winning combination making this a sure-to-be-popular book in classrooms and libraries everywhere. Note: Although this series is geared toward children in early elementary school, it is also popular with older children and even adults. It is a great tool for sharpening observation skills and is being used successfully by stroke victims and those with learning disabilities. Reviewer: Pat Trattles

Gr 1-4-The "I Spy" legacy continues with Treasure Hunt, the 10th installment in this successful series. Marzollo's structured rhymes provide the clues while Wick's stunningly detailed miniature village provides the hidden answers for readers to seek out. Some of the pictures require a lot of searching to find all of the objects mentioned in the rhyme. For those readers who can solve the rhymes in record time, Marzollo concludes with two pages of "Extra Credit Riddles." In addition, instructions are offered on creating individual riddles in the series format. A background note explains how the sets for Treasure Hunt were built and photographed. This title is sure to be popular in libraries that experience heavy usage in their 793.73 section.-Lisa Gangemi Krapp, Rockville Centre Public Library, NY Copyright 2000 Cahners Business Information.

    I Spy Treasure Hunt

I bought this book as a birthday present for one of my grandson. I also bought another one for him last Christmas, he just loved it. It is a good way to have family time together trying to figure out where things are. Also, good quite time for the kids. I would recommend this series to any person young (or old) it will keep them alert, observent, teach them patience (sometimes it takes awhile to find the object) and perserverence.

    The Best One Yet

I've seen a few other I-Spy books, and they are all great, but this one is the best. My young children, (as well as myself)have sat over this book for hours trying to find every last hidden object. We all can't wait for the next one!

For Kids? Better include Mom and Dad!

We bought treasure hunt for the children and they really enjoy this book. But I have to tell you that it is my wife and I that sit in bed together and enjoy this book before going to sleep. It's great. Need to buy more.

Great book for the whole family!

I Spy is one of the best series of books I have ever found for the whole family to enjoy together. From our 3 year-old to the grown-ups, we all loved to look at the I Spy book and find the trinkets. The rhymes are also fun for the little ones to read out loud.

    FUN TOGETHER

I bought this for my 5- and 8-year-old grandsons. We three sat on the couch for almost an hour searching, giggling, finding and not finding the required objects. The challenge and the frustration were equally enticing. The book is beautifully illustrated from miniature models, photographed with a look of reality. Humor abounds!

Great Fun for Adults to Look at with Kids

The cool thing about this entry to the I Spy series is that all the picture views are in and around the same little seaside town (where there may be buried treasure, of course), with many of them different angles or close-ups of the scene on previous pages. For example, the first two pages show a train station. The next scene gives a view of the entire little town from high on a cliffside with the rear of the station visible in the low foreground. Flip the page for a close-up of the display window of one of the little shops seen in the previous picture. The level of detail that must have gone into creating this is amazing.

I recommend the entire series for pretty much anyone of any age. We have a 4-year old daughter who loves sitting with us and helping find the hidden items. She is nearly as good as we are, providing she knows what the object is supposed to look like (she had difficulty finding a phone, having never seen a rotary type before). It's pretty addictive for adults, too. We rented a beach house with two other families and the adults were passing the book around while the kids napped.
