Two of my sons (ages 9 and 7) absolutely LOVE this series. We are avid readers and my oldest says that this is the BEST series he has ever read. The best part is that it has a lot of historical facts in each book, so they are entertained while learning!!! I highly recommend this series and hope the author continues to write more of these!

This is a great book. These books are best for 3rd graders but any one would love them. The only bad part is the ending. It could have been so much longer. They could have told about Clem and what happened to him. Birdie is my favorite character. She is so cute. On the lastt book page there is a really cute picture of her. I can't belive she is only 5. She doesn't act like a 5 year old. She act much older. I think it was really amazingly good but the ending leaves you hanging too much.

Im new to this series and totes loving it! Thomas and his little sis Birdie are child slaves and are losing hope. They run away and encounter Northern soldiers ( yeah, BTW its the Civil War) who take them back to their camp. They grow accostomed to them other. Then on the peak of the Battle of Gettysburg Birdie gets kidnapped! Oh No !!!!!!!!!!!! What will happen!? Will Birdie be Found? Will the Union Win the battle? Will Thomas and Birdie survive the battle and escape to rightful freedom? Find out this and more when you lucky reader reads , I SURVIVED The Battle Of Gettysburg , 1863 by Lauren Tarshis! - The Bookworm PS. Some scenes may be a bit graphic for young readers. Read with caution! As stated on the softcover version "Appeals to 2nd - 4th Graders" Thanks!
