Editorial Reviews

Children's Literature
Another volume in the "I Want to Be" series, this easy-reader book describes different aspects of construction, complete with color photos. The book excels at depicting builders of different ethnic backgrounds, genders, and ages. It also includes age-appropriate vocabulary related to construction throughout the book. Although the book is not meant to be a story per se, the text is rarely cohesive. The text on each page is related to the picture; however, the pictures and the text do not relate to one another from page to page. Also, the photos are pixilated and of poor quality. Unfortunately, there is no glossary to look up terms or references to find out more information about being a builder. Young children may enjoy this book because of the topic, but it is overall of mediocre quality. This book would be appropriate for a school library reference section. 2003, Firefly Books, Ages 3 to 8.

Simple, easy-to-read text and high quality, coloured photographs will appeal to young children and beginning readers. By incorporating a variety of ages and genders into the photographs, Liebman has identified trade professionals as an occupation for all people. Highly Recommended.
