Editorial Reviews

Children's Literature
Partnering with the Toronto Zoo and the Government of Canada, Liebman has produced an excellent book that is useful in many different capacities. Easy to read with full-color, compelling photographs, it will be a useful addition to any elementary school classroom, ESL teacher, special needs aide or library. The book provides an up-close look at gorillas, snakes, giraffes, penguins, kangaroos, koalas, bats, cheetahs, camels and rhinos. It shows zookeepers interacting with the animals in their daily routines, providing an engaging look at the job. This short text also provides good quick-reference and good entertainment value for anyone. Finally, this book reads like someone's own scrapbook. The book is a part of the "I want to be a" series. 2003, Firefly Books Ltd,

School Library Journal
K-Gr 2-Each of these very basic introductions contains full- and double-page, color photos that show people of different ethnic backgrounds demonstrating aspects of their work. One or two short sentences in large, bold print against a white background bordered in black are superimposed on the pictures, making the words stand out. Nonreaders can learn something about each occupation from the photos themselves. Dee Ready's Librarians (1998), Tracey Boraas's Auto Mechanics (1999), and Tami Deedrick's Zoo Keepers (1998, all Bridgestone) include more detailed text, a glossary, additional reading, and Web sites.-Kristina Aaronson, Henniker Community School, NH Copyright 2003 Reed Business Information.
