Editorial Reviews

Children's Literature - Marilyn Courtot
The protagonist wants to be an astronaut, to venture into space and be part of a brave new group of workers. The sex of the astronaut is undefined and the crew reflects different races. They all seem to have a fine time eating, sleeping, and working on their space mission, but they also are happy to return to earth when the mission is over. This may be just the book that launches the career of a future astronaut. Bold and simple illustrations, plus minimal text, make the reissue of this book in a board book format a success. 1997 (orig.
Children's Literature - Beverly Kobrin
Mr. Barton's five sentences, brilliant colors, and bold strokes tell it like it is for today's toddlers, tomorrow's space walkers.
School Library Journal
PreS-Gr 1 Barton's thick-lined illustrations positively glow in this simple, lyrical picture book. A young girl declares her longing to ``fly on the shuttle into outer space,'' to live in zero gravity, ``put on a space suit , '' and ``help fix a satellite'' before coming back to Earth. Text is very briefa few words in bold face type per pagebut the familiar acts of eating, sleeping, and working become intense and special as she and the rest of the crew go about their business in the bright, stylized pictures. Beginning readers may stumble over some of the vocabulary, but the book's emotional appeal will have nearly everyone off and flying. John Peters, New York Public Library
