Editorial Reviews

Barnes & Noble - Andrew Velez
This memorable first-time collaboration between diva assoluta Norman and composer and pianist Michel Legrand avoids all the pitfalls common to most opera stars when they venture into popular music. Abetted by jazz masters Ron Carter on bass and Grady Tate on drums, this set is an unqualified joy. Norman's oceanic range and depth are totally at the service of these 17 gems from Legrand's songbook. Lushly sensual renditions in both languages of "The Summer Knows" serve as musical bookends for the set. Norman gets intimate and vigorously rhythmical support throughout from Legrand's keyboard. Legrand's no second fiddle here; he's a full partner who digs into some fierce riffs of his own when called for. They're something to hear, this pair.

    HEAVEN!

This is a beautiful, romantic album. It's easy to feel as if you are in Paris while listening to this. I never really heard Jessye Norman before, and I am so pleased. The album has a wonderful selection of Legrand music.
