Children's Literature - Carlee Hallman
In four line rhymes the text confronts the common fears of young children: thunder, the dark, meeting new people, a stage performance, war on TV, and a dog. The text appears in a bubble on the left hand page along with a Bible verse, and a black-and-white line drawing. The right hand page shows colored pictures of a girl with reddish brown, fuzzy locks watching television with her parents, praying in church, and walking across the street with her father. When she enters a classroom with the teacher behind her, the text reads, "And when I meet new boys and girls and I am feeling shy, I will not be afraid at all, I will not scream or cry." The line drawing shows the cloakroom. The accompanying Bible verse says, "Therefore do not worry" (Matthew 6:34). With the picture of the girl lying in a meadow with a white cape tied on the rhyme says, "God sent His Son to die for me. That sure is great to know! Cause even when my life is through, I know just where I'll go." A "Parent Note" advises parents to talk to their child about fears and write an appropriate prayer to give confidence that God is always near. This book reassures children in good times and bad that God is with them. Reviewer: Carlee Hallman
