Overview

The Moonbeam Award Silver Medal Winner in the religion category, I Will Rejoice allows parents and teachers to share wonderful ways children can rejoice in the simple pleasures of everyday life. Based on Psalm 118:24, I Will Rejoice brings Scripture to a child's level of understanding. Children six and under will easily relate to how they can rejoice in the day the Lord has made. Using rhyme, author Karma Wilson captures the essence of this well-known verse and offers true teachable moments. Whether it be a good morning kiss, lunch shared with a teddy bear, a cozy lap, or time with the family, children will easily grasp the concept of rejoicing with the meaningful things that make up their day.

Editorial Reviews

Publishers Weekly
Psalm 18 and its joyful refrain "This is the day the Lord has made; let us rejoice and be glad in it," is the peaceful focus of a child's thoughts throughout her busy day in this reassuring picture book. Whether she's getting dressed, having a tea party with a playmate and their teddy bears or greeting her father as he returns home from work, the young narrator takes the time to recognize and appreciate God's gifts present in her life. Though it may be idealistic to think that young children have such a big concept always in their consciousness, Wilson's (Bear Snores On) text, akin to a checklist of blessings, will help remind readers of all they possess. In her loose pencil-and-watercolor illustrations, Bates (Pumpkin Cat) places the action in comforting, contemporary, universal situations that many children will recognize. Together, art and text create a resonant coziness. Ages 4-8. (Feb.) Copyright 2006 Reed Business Information.
