Editorial Reviews

Children's Literature - Patricia Williamson
One of many in the "I Wonder Why..." series by Kingfisher Publishers that bring a new reader into the nonfiction world.. This book takes a reader through the world of pirates. This is a very comprehensive look at pirates through the ages and is very current in bringing in the recent incidents of piracy in the waters around Asia and Africa. The material is not sensational but factually informative and for the pirate buff will give interesting information that is not often found in books for children about pirates. There is a great section about female pirates and good illustrations to accompany the text. Every section is short and informative with fast facts associated in textboxes around the information. A person could pick and choose from the titles in the table of contents and the index directs a reader to specifics if they are looking for a general topic within the book.
