Editorial Reviews

Children's Literature - Vicki Foote
Based on the movie, the story is about Manny and Ellie who are mammoths living during the Ice Age. Ellie is expecting a baby and all their friends are excited except Diego, the saber-toothed tiger, Diego is not sure how he feels, but he knows he wants a life of adventure. So he goes away to chase a gazelle. Manny is upset because he thinks that Diego doesn't want to be part of the family anymore. When Diego hears that the baby is on its way, he decides he wants to be there for Ellie. A happy ending follows when the baby is born and they are all friends together. The text is part of the "I Can Read" series, and is on Level Two, which is "Reading with Help." Illustrations of the characters from the movie are lively and fun. This simple story should be enjoyable for beginning readers and especially for those who are familiar with the movie. Reviewer: Vicki Foote
