I didn't expect much from this download, but I was pleasantly surprised. It was really, really good. Excellent writing. You become involved with the characters immediately. It takes place in a quirky sword, sorcery, techie world and is very fast paced. I didn't bother to read the bonus excerpt because I had already decided to buy the rest of the series.

Few authors can make you care about the characters in 40 pages let alone tell a complete story. This author does both and has made me a fan. I will be buying stories from this author. I whole heartedly recommend this story.

I truly enjoyed reading this, and my only wish is that it was longer - but hey, you can only get so much for free. I will definitely be going out to purchase the full-length story that was mentioned at the end.

What a fun short story this was to read! I read it in one sitting and thoroughly enjoyed it, especially the spots of humor the author threw in when you least expected it. Highly recommended, if you love adventure and action you will adore this book!

This story is handled with a great deal of skill and the calm confidence of a writer born. I very much look forward to having the following prediction proven by events; Lindsay Buroker will be a No.1 bestselling author.

This is a great book, it got me pulled into the whole series. It's almost like a sample but it's its own book. It has enough information so you understand the story. The only thing i don't get is, where in the series does this fit in?

Please please please read this; it is so good, free or not. However, I would reccomend reading Emperor's Edge first. Guess what? It's also free!!

Absolutely wonderful short inclusions that I enjoyed immensely, as they were further moments with characters that I really love. They're better read *after* you get your feet into the story through the Emperor's Edge novel, but seeing as that's a free ebook, I don't see how this is a problem.

A good intro story, though it wasn't as thorough an introduction to the character's as I might have hoped. It comes across in a way that seems like I'm actually in the middle of a series. I would have preferred this introduction to be more of a 'beginning' than it was. I may pick up the related book in the future.
