Editorial Reviews

Children's Literature - Jody Little
Rosa and her younger sister, Amelia, are nervous about making new friends when they move to Chicago from Miami. Rosa's mom signs her up for ice skating lessons where Rosa receives an icy greeting from Jacqui, the reigning queen of the ice. Soon, Rosa befriends Meena, another skater who is sweet and funny, but lacking in confidence. When Rosa's skating teacher encourages her to skate in the upcoming competition, Rosa becomes anxious, but she increases her practice time in the hopes of beating Jacqui and winning the competition. As Rosa's friendship with Meena grows, so does her rivalry with Jacqui, which leads Rosa to jeopardize her friendship. On the day of the competition, Rosa's family and friends join her in support, and Rosa learns the true spirit of what it means to win and be happy. Girls who enjoy stories of friendship with just a hint of romance will like this new addition to the "Candy Apple Book" series. The messages of having positive friendships and doing something simply because you love it come through clearly. Reviewer: Jody Little

    I highly recommend this book.

This book was great for my 9yr old daughter. It was great for her to have the confidence that she could read a charpter book on her own.
