Editorial Reviews

Children's Literature - Bonita Herold
Why put a season constriction on the time to fish? Fish tastes good in all weather! Besides, fishing in an ice-fishing house can be downright cozy. Of course, wearing appropriate clothing goes a long way in helping to prevent frostbite. Layering is always a good idea. But the first thing to keep in mind about safety is to make sure the ice is thick enough. Guidelines on recommended thicknesses vary from state to state, as shown in a table within “Chapter 4: Safety.” This book provides information on fishing gear, techniques, safety, and the importance of conservation. Consistently written like the other books in the series “Into the Great Outdoors,” this book also provides dramatic photographs, such as the photograph of the 45.5-inch tiger muskie caught on Otisco Lake in central New York. Elementary and middle grade science teachers and students would appreciate having this series in their classrooms. Reviewer: Bonita Herold; Ages 8 to 14.
