Meet the Author
Mark Abley was born in England and grew up in western Canada. A Rhodes scholar at Oxford, he has been a books columnist at the Montreal Gazette and winner of a National Newspaper Award for critical writing. He continues to work at the Gazette as a features writer. In addition to the text for the best-selling photographic book The Ice Storm (1998), he has written two books of poetry, one travel book (Beyond Forget: Rediscovering the Prairies, 1986), and the text for Ottmar Bierwagen’s photographic book Heartland (1989). He lives with his wife and two daughters in Pointe Claire, Quebec.

This was the Mother of all the storms I have lived through in Jefferson County New York, Jan the 8th, 1998. This book will bring me back to how we survived the storm with the help of our good neighbors, The Freemans.
