Editorial Reviews

Publishers Weekly
"Icky Sticky Monster is being very naughty./ That stinky little monster is hiding in the potty." Such is readers' irresistible introduction to a bright blue monster with two horns and a steady stream of green gunk pouring from his nose (children can watch him pull "snotty goo" out of his schnoz on the second spread—it's intended as a gift for them). Offering goofy, boldly colored cartoons, Lodge delights in the general grossness (the monster's drink of choice is "stinky, wormy cabbage juice with added chunks of slug"). Her readers will, too. Ages 3–up. (Sept.)

Children's Literature - Kristin Harris
Icky Sticky Monster is very naughty and rude. He hides in the toilet, picks his nose and shares it with you. When Icky Sticky Monster is hungry he finds the perfect lunch, something very smelly and moldy in a trashcan. When he sits down to rest and have a drink, his drink of choice is stinky, wormy cabbage juice with added chunks of slug. It is time for Icky Sticky Monster to go to bed, and after picking his nose, eating garbage, and drinking slugs, he wants to give you a good night kiss. This perfectly delightful pop-up book combines imaginative paper engineering, bold, colorful art and a silly sense of humor. A number of the pages require reader interaction to work, i.e. Icky Sticky Monster hiding in the toilet while other pages pop-up magic is activated by the turning page as with the nose picking. The text looks as if it were written with a brush, but the letters are large enough to make it easy to read for beginning readers. Reviewer: Kristin Harris; Ages 3 to 7.
