Editorial Reviews

School Library Journal - School Library Journal
Gr 7 Up-- A well-researched, well-documented biography that depicts Wells-Barnett as a woman of strong principles and courage as she fought for the rights of African-Americans and women in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. Readers are also given interesting facts about the Civil War, lynching, and the establishment of the NAACP. At times the writing is dry, but it does give solid information on an important black women, and will be of use to students writing reports. A center section offers 14 pages of black-and-white photographs and reproductions of newspaper articles. --Sharon L. Godfrey, Whisconier Middle School, Brookfield Center, CT
