Overview

“If anything ever goes wrong at the zoo, you can send the zebras to my house,” Leslie tells the zebra keeper. She also invites the monkeys and the elephants. None of them ever comes—until one wet, stormy night when the zoo floods and the zebra keeper remembers Leslie’s offer. “It’s a simple, enticing idea, gracefully and logically developed by this new author and ably abetted by Dyer’s watercolors. . . . A real charmer.”—Kirkus Reviews

School Library Journal
PreS-Gr2-- Leslie visits the zoo every Saturday, but her mother is unaware that as her daughter talks with the animals' keepers, she offers to take in the animals ``if anything ever goes wrong at the zoo.'' When heavy rains cause flooding, the keepers remember Leslie's offer and escort their charges to her house. Her bewildered mother grants them refuge, but reminds Leslie to check first before inviting friends over the next time. A crisp and conversational text makes this a great choice for reading aloud, and children will be quick to anticipate the animals' arrival. Dyer's spirited watercolors skillfully capture the understated humor and add sparkle to a winning tale. --Lori A. Janick, Parkwood Elementary School, Pasadena, TX

Can you imagine having the zoo animals come to your house for an overnight stay? My four year old and I could for sure. We both loved this book! We got it from the library today and I've already logged on to purchase a copy. It is just the right length for bedtime and offers just the right amount of nonsense to kick start the imagination.
