""An endearingly bittersweet book where parents who don't want their babies to grow up too quickly, and yet, want to see their kids realize their dreams and experience life's ups and downs."" - Parent Reviewers

""With a cute rhyme and scribbly watercolor drawings, author and illustrator Marianne Richmond tells the story of growing up, and the wonderful discoveries that come from becoming a big kid and from watching that process unfold. I liked this book because it speaks not only to every mother who longs to stop time, but to kids everywhere who can't wait to speed it up. "If I Could Keep You Little" is a big delight."" - Bookworm Sez

"Moms and Dads express how much they enjoy their young children in this rhyming book."

"Celebrate life, growth and the bond you share with If I Could Keep You Little by Marianne Richmond. Be sure to have tissues handy."

"If I Could Keep You Little successfully captures those fleeting moments when a mother or father reflect on the times when their children were growing up, having to keep them safe and warm — just before they tuck them in for bed, never neglecting to check the closets and under the bed for all things that may go bump in the night. A book that truly comes highly recommended."

School Library Journal
PreS-Gr 2—Moms and Dads express how much they enjoy their young children in this rhyming book. But, on the other hand, the parents would miss so much of the joy in watching them grow up if they did stay small. "If I could keep you little,/I'd decide on matching clothes./But then I'd miss you choosing/dots on top and stripes below..../If I could keep you little,/I'd tell you stories every night./But then I'd miss you reading the words you've learned by sight." And so it goes, as the adults eventually have to let go so that their youngsters can grow into the people they were meant to be. Richmond's ink and watercolor illustrations portray a multicultural cast of parents experiencing the same sense of joy and loss. This is an average tale, and the rhyme is forced at times, but it's suitable for one-on-one sharing.—Roxanne Burg, Orange County Public Library, CA

    Bridget's Review

When you are close to a child, you realize how fast time really goes. It seems like only yesterday I was helping care for my nephew after he was born. He's three now and I have no idea where the time went. If I Could Keep You Little is not only something I thought when looking at Damien, it's also a great book. I read it to him and he followed along and looked up at me smiling. It's a beautiful reminder of what it's like to love a child.

    A Precious Treasure of Truth

As any parent can tell you there a the precious moments where you want your baby to stay just the way they are right then forever. But then looking to the future I personally am excited about the idea of doing sewing crafts together and sharing books and stories. I look forward to a four year old with curls in pajamas squealing about princesses. Yet also... one day I'll look forward to the real far future where she continues to grow, but for now, I'll focus here. If I could keep you little...

This picture book touches the heart and really spells out the feelings of mixed desire to have your child grow into whom they should be, but also to protect them and keep them where they are. The watercolors are gorgeous and the mixture of artistry and fonts in the words make this a fun one to share in reading. I think this will be a great addition to our shelves and recommend it for all.
