Meet the Author

Jane Goodger is the author of numerous historical romances. A former journalist, Jane lives in New England with her husband, three children, ornery half-feral Italian cat and a yappy but lovely chihuahua (don't ask). When she's not writing, she's hanging with her kids, reading, collecting sea glass and generally anything else not related to cleaning the house.

I read this book on the off chance that I might like it as much as When A Duke Says I Do, which I thought was spectacular. Boy! Mrs Goodger knows how to write a fantastic story. You've undoubtedly read the synopsis of this book from the other reviewers her so I won't rehash the plot line. Suffice it to say that this is one of the best books I've ever read. I finished this book in a day, it was so darn captivating I just couldn't put it down. Loved It! I can't understand why I'm only NOW just discovering Jane Goodger...

This is a beautifully written historic tale. There are a few grammatical errors that should have been caught by an editor, but the story is  beyond lovely.

Sara is acused of murdering a young man and her parents, she runs to her brother for help who works on a whaling boat and explains what has happen. Zackery the brother knows that the on female allowed on the boat is the Captains wife so he ask the Captain to marry his sister. Captain declines. Sara is upset and shocked by her brothers proposal and tells him the Captain would never marry someone like her. Zackery tells her she is beautiful and not to talk like that. Really? No talk about the dead parents. Sara lies to Zack, that she would go stay with an Aunt, Zack gives what little money he has, Sara get a room, next afternoon leaves to buy clothes because she has on the same dirty clothes she left home with. We hear this fact many times. While she is walking she is attacked by two men, one cuts her neck, not deep, she turns to run and bumps into Captain Mitchel, her brothers boss who takes her back to the boat and decides to help her. Author should have found a better way to get her on the boat, maybe Sara should have posed as a young man.
