Meet the Author

Tamara lives in the piney woods north of Houston, Texas, where she spends her time on administrative work, taking care of her family, and writing when she gets the chance. Remarkably, Allen manages to infuse just as much depth, heart and rich historical detail into this excellent novella as she does in her exceptional novels. And unlike too many novellas the story she tells is a complete one not a mere fragment or outline. She is one of the very best writers in the genre and recommend to anyone who isn't looking just for stroke fiction.

Once you see Tamara Allen's name, you know it will be a great read. This one did not dissapoint. She is a master of setting the historical scene in such a way that you feel you are there. And the characters are great as well.

Good short story

For free, this was a nice, short tole set during the depression. I think it would be better titled "If it Suits You" or something like that.

4-1/2 stars This is a great little short story. I actually tried to read this before reading Whistling in the Dark but I just couldn't get into it because as I said in my review for Whistling, I wasn't ready to let go of the previous book I read. So I did something I don't often do and that was put it aside and delved into Whistling. Once I finished Whistling, I came back to If It Ain't Love and I just loved it. The only complaint I had was the fact that it was a novella/short story instead of a full length novel. Whit needed something to get going again and Peter needed something to keep going and in each other they may just find it. Such a great read.

We forget how bad things were in the Depression, how little hope anyone had. This story is a reminder and a celebration of what two people can be and do for each other. The writing is solid, the story one of warmth and possibility. I enjoyed it very much, even though I'm not generally a fan of short novels. Ms. Allen filled the pages with likable and engaging characters, and with hope. A very satisfying read.
