A sizzling scandal just waiting to happen...

Orphaned at a young age, Lady Katherine Ashton and her brother have spent most of their lives on the high seas, seeking to restore their family fortune through somewhat dubious means. After that kind of adventure, Kate knows she won't ever be accepted as a proper society lady.

To the annoyingly clever, temptingly handsome, and altogether troublesome Earl of Wynbrook, society ladies are a dead bore. Kate, on the other hand, is scandalous, alluring, and altogether fascinating. And Kate can't decide which she relishes more, the thrill of chasing fearsome pirates, or having Wynbrook chase after her...

Forester (The Highlander’s Bride), a champ at crafting feisty and independent Regency-era women, has outdone herself with Lady Katherine Ashton. Kate and her twin brother, Robert, Earl of Darington, have been fabulously successful privateers for several years and are returning to London to pay dividends to their investors. Kate hates being forced to spend a few weeks in the city, away from the high seas, rubbing elbows with other lords and ladies. She absolutely refuses to be tamed and bound to any man in matrimony, but this visit does offer an opportunity to find a bride for Robert. It’s with that in mind that they agree to stay at the home of family friend John Arlington, Earl of Wynbrook, and plan to attend a handful of social fetes. Needless to say, Wynbrook’s dutiful offer to escort Kate quickly advances to full-on attraction amid Forester’s reliably entertaining signature trinity of danger, intrigue, and dry wit. (July)

"Once again, Forester earns top marks for her spunky heroines and their men who need to be taught a thing or two (usually at the expense of their pride, and by said spunky heroines). Forester's gift for humor and creating memorable characters who have survived wrenching tragedy sparkle like gems in this newest romp through the ton's drawing rooms." - RT Book Reviews, 4 Stars

"Forester combines romantic tension with over-the-top adventures in this witty read for historical-romance fans who like a touch of mystery. A cast of engaging secondary characters will have readers eagerly waiting for the next book in Forester's new Regency romance series, the Daring Marriages." - Booklist

"Forester knows what she's doing and she does it incredibly well. If the Earl Only Knew was both enchanting and delightfully refreshing. " - Herding Cats & Burning Soup

"I highly recommend IF THE EARL ONLY KNEW. This is a story with lots of adventures, mysteries, secrets, fun and romance. I can't wait to read the next one in the series." - Fresh Fiction

An earl's sister lives in isolation after a difficult childhood until a friend of her brother's helps her overcome her bitterness. Forester (The Highlander's Bride, 2015) returns with the first book in her new Regency series, The Daring Marriages. Lady Katherine Ashton has come back to England after a long absence. She and her twin brother, Robert, the Earl of Darington, have recovered from their childhood penury and become quite wealthy, thanks to Kate's financial acumen and Robert's daring career as a privateer for the English crown. When they meet with a group of investors to repay them for helping finance Robert's sailing career, Kate is dismayed to find that a certain investor has appeared in person to collect his money. John Arlington, the Earl of Wynbrook, had a steamy encounter with Kate the last time she was in England. Now years of hardship and loneliness have taken their toll. Kate is a grim, unhappy woman, dressed in severe black because masquerading as a widow makes it easier to avoid drawing attention to herself. Although Kate and Robert would like to keep to themselves, a series of mishaps soon makes it clear that they're being pursued by an unknown enemy. They're forced to accept the help of the Arlington family, which means Kate and John have to reckon with their past and figure out how to get along. The book is a dramatic tale of debtors prison, kidnapping, gunshot wounds, and runaway maidens. The story is well-paced and absorbing, the characters complicated and likable, and the prose straightforward and clear. While the heroine's transformation in a few short weeks is just a bit too extreme to be believable, the book is well-written and most readers will be entertained.

'If The Earl Only Knew' by Amanda Forester is book one in the "The Daring Marriages" series. This is the story of Lady Katherine Ashton and John the Earl of Wynbrook. This story got you end from the first few pages. We learned that Katherine and her twin brother had to struggle after their father died leaving debts. They pretty much it seem had to raise themselves and fight to get back from under such hardship. Katherine's brother did start a friendship with John's younger brother. Their Katherine overheard John talking bad about her to his brother. Katherine still hold that against him in the present day along with a kiss that they had shared back during that time too. But Katherine hopes only to be in London for just a few weeks while they settle up their debits and pay off the people that loan them money to start their business. It was fun to watch how they had to over come how they felt about each other in their presumption of each other. I just can't wait to see a story about her brother...he looks to be a good read too! I received this book in exchange for an honest review.

So fun! I really enjoyed the author's witty and humorous writing style, and the romance had just the right amount of danger and drama to balance it out. How is it I've never read anything from her before? (Two words: BACKLIST and TBR.) I adored Kate's character. She and her twin, Robert, have had such a tough time in life--and very nearly everything they've done, they did for themselves. At the beginning of the book, they're both so stiff and serious, unused to society and ugh--just reading about their plain, austere clothing made me cringe! It was wonderful watching Kate come out of her shell (with a whole lot of help from the Arlingtons...especially John). And John, Earl of Wynbrook? (swoon!) I loved him as a hero. He was just as prickly in his own way in the beginning (their history had some questionable moments) but once he got close to Kate and found out the reasons behind her and Robert's somewhat dubious qualities? OMG, he could not have been a better guy. All the things that she was afraid to tell him, the things that she kept hidden? He had the absolute perfect responses to them all. I just wanted to hug them both. Except I wouldn't. Because Kate keeps a knife strapped to her leg. I loved their romance, and trying to figure out the drama of their past was a lot of fun. Some of the side romances were almost too easily accomplished, though they were still cute. And I am definitely looking forward to finding out the story behind Robert's surprising arrival on the last page! Book 2 will be out...when? ;) Rating: 4 stars / A- I received a complimentary copy in exchange for an honest review.

Kate was a departure from your average, lady of means, coquettish character that leads most historical romance. She had a past that was provocative and a spirit that could not be tamed. I love these type of leading women because they are more than a pretty face. More depth is hiding behind the exterior. If the Earl Only Knew blended adventurous spirit with action packed storylines and seductive plot twists and intriguing mystery. Was sad to see it end.
