Overview

Life isn't a fairy tale . . . except when it is.

There's nothing wrong with Ella Gibson's life - it just isn't very exciting, despite being surrounded by lingerie. Working for Cardiff's top modeling agency should have been glamorous, but most of the time Ella is running around with memos and cups of coffee. It's a far cry from living the dream, but skirting the edge of her fantasy life is enough.

Then comes the day when her cat starts to talk, claiming to be Ella's fairy godmother. As if that weren't crazy enough, the pesky puss becomes a fashion advisor and behavioral expert, too. Add an evil ex-stepmother, a hunk called Charming, plus a looming party-cum-ball, and you have all the elements of a classical fairy tale. There's even a couple of ugly sisters - the fact that they are two gorgeous gay men being neither here nor there.

Ella's not your typical fairy-tale princess though, and it will take more than a discarded glass slipper to get her man. It's quite possible she may have to curb her enthusiasm for cursing a wee bit, not to mention her love of vodka. And can Muse, her surprisingly straight-laced feline friend, overcome her prudishness long enough for Ella to sneak a kiss or three with her intended beau?

What a great read. I absolutely adore fairy tale re-writes, and If the Shoe Fits does not disappoint. Ella is Cinderella and her kingdom is a modeling agency in England. The cast of secondary characters--which includes a same-sex male couple (the step "sisters"), a talking cat (fairy godmother), and a sweet-but-clueless father--is what truly makes this book. If the Shoe Fits even has an overnight trip to Gretna Green that ends in a wedding dress and kilts. This book is a well-spent weekend waiting to happen.

In If the Shoe Fits, Ella Gibson works at a top modeling agency.

In If the Shoe Fits, Ella Gibson works at a top modeling agency. She is not a model though, no matter how much she wishes that she was but she is short, with a bust bigger than any model and has a frizzy hair that will not be tamed. No she is the human email, the coffee girl and goffer that has to do what anyone and everyone wants for everyone in the office is her boss. The only good thing about working there is that she works with her two BFFs, two former male models that are now the best photographer and makeup artists there can be, too bad that they are both gay and are a couple. But that does not mean that she is not the envy of gals whenever she goes out with them.

Max Charming is to be the new person in charge of the modeling agency. What he doesn’t expect is that on his first day he will find himself with a very nice view of Ella’s bust flashing him when she has an accident and then removes a piece of the broken ceramic cup from her backside that had been embedded there. But their encounters get more and more interesting, because for some reason Ella, who is not really that clumsy, finds herself in very clumsy situations that end up flashing a body part to Max each and every time.

To make things even more interesting, Ella’s cat, Muse, starts talking to her. And she claims to be Ella’s fairy godmother, who only now starts speaking to her because Ella is about to find and claim her prince Charming.

Max and Ella will have many entertaining moments of flashing and a cat that will not let them get it on no matter what. Muse is adamant that Ella must act like a lady and must not swear, something that she does very frequently. With the help/interference of Muse, the “Ugly Sisters” as Muse calls Ella’s BFFs, and the bad and very ambitious ex-stepmother. Ella will have lots to do if she is to show Max that she is interested in him and that she is not just fooling around with a lot of males, who happen to be her father and her two gay friends.

If you like a good fairy tale, you will like this new modern and twisted tale of Cinderella with a fairy catmother. I personally cannot wait to read the next book in this series with a twist on Beauty and the Beast. Hope you enjoy If the Shoe Fits by Amber T. Smith as much as I did.

Fair warning. This is a silly book. A sweet and sassy recasting of the Cinderella story with an accident prone heroine, two hotties in
kilts, a mad dash to Gretna Green, a cat calling all the shots, and a handsome Charming totally enthralled by the heroine's . . . thongs?
Well, he certainly gets an eye-full.

Sometimes you just need to read something lighthearted and ridiculous. Escapism is a good thing. I think romance readers in
particular have a soft spot for the fairy tales of our youth so stories like these are wonderful and refreshing respites when everything
else seems to need a point. Why, for goodness sake? Comedy is its own point.

If you can't appreciate a book without serious, redeeming value, I urge you to look elsewhere. If the Shoe Fits was not intended for you.
But if you enjoy an amusing romp, implausible situations, lots of chuckles, and a heroine who couldn't possibly take herself seriously,
I encourage you to consider this delightful little escape from reality.

I received an ARC from the author for an honest and objective review.
