If the Universe Is Teeming with Aliens ... WHERE IS EVERYBODY?: Fifty Solutions to the Fermi Paradox and the Problem of Extraterrestrial Life / Edition 1by Stephen Webb
Pub. Date: 12/01/2010
Publisher: Springer New York
In a 1950 conversation at Los Alamos, four world-class scientists generally agreed, given the size of the Universe, that advanced extraterrestrial civilizations must be present. But one of the four, Enrico Fermi, asked, "If these civilizations do exist, where is everybody?" Given the fact that there are perhaps 400 million stars in our Galaxy alone, and perhaps 400 million galaxies in the Universe, it stands to reason that somewhere out there, in the 14 billion-year-old cosmos, there is or once was a civilization at least as advanced as our own. Webb discusses in detail the 50 most cogent and intriguing solutions to Fermi's famous paradox.

If the Universe is Teeming Up With Aliens... was a very interesting book. It brought up a lot of ideas that I had never really thought of. For people who do not believe in aliens because they simply just do not think they are real, this book showed a point that no one really knows what is real and what isn't real. We haven't had contact with another life, but that does not necessarily mean that they do not exist. We just do not know. From reading this book, I also learned what a paradox was, although it is still a bit confusing because it has so many different ideas. A paradox is basically a theory or an idea that maybe one person, multiple people, or no one agrees with. There are many ideas of whether aliens exist, reasons why or why not. But there is not real telling of whether it is true or not. I enjoyed how they book opened up different aspects and gave you something to think about. I also liked the authors mentions of people who inspired him to write the book and their own studies because that also helped with understanding what the ideas or concepts meant and they went just a bit deeper into things.
