Editorial Reviews

Children's Literature
What a clever premise and what a fun way to introduce the concept of nouns. Using the theme of space travel, readers embark on a voyage through space picking up grammar rules as they go along. If you were a singular noun you might be a star, an astronaut, or a spaceship. Of course, you could be a proper noun like Cape Canaveral or Neil Armstrong. You could be one alien or several aliens or perhaps a lone galaxy or a number of galaxies. Perhaps you are a group of things like a "crew of astronauts" or a "colony of space pioneers." The illustrations are rendered in colorful acrylics that capture the atmosphere of space, the playfulness of imagined space creatures, the brilliance of the stars, and the coolness of the nebulas. Pair this with Robin Pulver's Nouns and Verbs Have a Field Day for a lesson that will have the kids begging for more. A glossary, index, and bibliography are included. This is part of the "Word Fun" series. If this book is any example of the series as a whole, school libraries will want to own them all. 2006, Picture Window/Capstone Press, Ages 5 to 9.

Gr 1-3-These concept books define the parts of speech and give examples of their usage. The examples are in capital letters and in a color different from the surrounding text. Bright acrylic illustrations will help younger children visualize each part of speech. They are full of movement and color and make the books inviting. These titles are excellent resources to use along with Ruth Heller's books on the parts of speech.-Lucinda Snyder Whitehurst, St. Christopher's School, Richmond, VA Copyright 2006 Reed Business Information.
