Part of the "Word Fun" series of fifteen books on parts of speech and elements of grammar, this edition explains prefixes for early elementary students. In the picture book format, the story defines the many ways a prefix can be used and gives examples of each use, while underlining the prefixes in all examples. Colorful, cartoon-like drawings of animals and minimal text combine to attract young readers by reinforcing the various uses of prefixes and ways in which the addition of prefixes can change the meaning of a word. There are plenty of examples on each page to reinforce learning. A follow-up written activity, glossary of new terms, and sources for further study are included. Meet the Author

Marcie Aboff is the author of picture books, early readers, chapter books, and magazine stories. She also used to work as a feature writer for a daily newspaper in Escondido, California, and as a catalog copywriter for an advertising firm in New York City. She’s written more than 20 titles for Picture Window Books. Marcie loves visiting schools to talk to students about being an author, as well as helping them develop their own writing potential. When she’s not writing or visiting schools, Marcie likes to play tennis, listen to music, see really good movies, travel, and eat as much chocolate as she can. Marcie resides in Edison, New Jersey, with her two sons and one daughter. Their cat, Sneakers, also resides in the home, although he sometimes is under the impression he is the sole proprietor.

Sara Gray graduated with a BFA in illustration and design from the Minneapolis College of Art and Design. She has worked as a freelance illustrator for Picture Window Books, Mpls/St. Paul Magazine, and Minnesota Parent Magazine.

The Word Fun series that Sara worked on with Picture Window Books won the AEP Distinguished Achievement Award and the American Graphic Design Award.

Sara currently works at Manhattan Toy Company as a product designer for Manhattan Toy's doll, plush, and puppet lines. Her illustrations also appear on Manhattan Toy's packaging for their Cirque du Soleil product line.
