Editorial Reviews

Children's Literature - Beverley Fahey
Bold, bright acrylics fill the pages of this book and help illustrate words that mean the same or almost the same things. After explaining the meaning of the term, colorful words and supportive illustrations convey the meaning in a series of simple sentences. Polar bears playing on the ice describe the cold conditions as cool, chilly, frosty, icy, wintry or freezing. Synonyms as verbs are illustrated in a windblown landscape in which the wind is said to sweep, flutter, or sail. Adjectives describe a desert as arid or dry. Complete with a "Fun With" section with sample activities to extend the text as well as a glossary and index, this would be a useful addition to a classroom library or it may be a supplemental tool to use with children learning English as a second language. In primary grades this book would make a very handy "first" thesaurus.
