Editorial Reviews

Children's Literature
Applying the picture book format to a book about adverbs is a novel approach to teaching children about a difficult concept. In order to help kids grasp the purpose of adverbs, the book uses the analogy of how peanut butter goes with jelly—a clever way to demonstrate how adverbs go with verbs. The clear, brightly colored illustrations cleverly portray a bear diving perfectly and speedily. Athletes are shown as extraordinarily fast, somewhat short, immensely muscular, or very tall. Teachers are sure to find this book very useful when they teach creative writing. Additional worthwhile extras include an adverb game, a glossary, an index, and sources for more information. The other titles in the "Word Fun" series are mentioned on the last page. Consider for purchase if there is a need for creative writing materials. 2006, Picture Window Books/Capstone Press, Ages 7 to 10.

Gr 1-3-These concept books define the parts of speech and give examples of their usage. The examples are in capital letters and in a color different from the surrounding text. Bright acrylic illustrations will help younger children visualize each part of speech. They are full of movement and color and make the books inviting. These titles are excellent resources to use along with Ruth Heller's books on the parts of speech.-Lucinda Snyder Whitehurst, St. Christopher's School, Richmond, VA Copyright 2006 Reed Business Information.
