Overview

On his first two albums, Chad Brock staked his claim on some prime real estate among mainstream country’s tenderhearted macho belters, and with III he stakes out a bit of turf for his own. The tone is set early on with the boisterous "Park the Pickup (Kiss the Girl)" -- advice for the lovelorn that is set to a big, booming beat -- followed by a no-nonsense, acoustic-flavored heartbreaker, "Tell Me How," with pleading verses buttressed by powerhouse, pleading choruses. "Right Now" finds Allmans-style double-guitar lines weaving their way among Brock’s heartfelt sentiments of devotion in a love song that blends traditional country with southern rock. In the witty, rocking "Livin’ in Las Vegas," Brock likens his all-consuming love for a woman to being on a hot roll in Bugsy Siegel’s dreamland. A former professional wrestler with the WCW, Brock has delivered a something-for-everyone collection -- romantic, rollicking, sentimental -- that seems sure to slam into the country charts.

Editorial Reviews

All Music Guide - Rick Cohoon
For Chad Brock, it looks like the third time's a charm. Brock has been making great music for quite some time, but up until now it seems that he has been shifting around musically, trying to find his niche in country music. It's like the old game of pegs where one tries to put the round peg in the round hole, the square peg in the square hole, and so on. With the release of III, Chad Brock seems to have all of his pegs in the right spot. Brock never abandons the fun country style, with songs like "Park the Pick-Up (Kiss the Girl)" and "Livin' in Las Vegas" running in a similar vein to past hits "Yes!" and "Lightning Does the Work." Some better-than-average ballads pop up on this CD, too; the best one is "The Lie," a song about a woman who pays the price of one infidelity with a permanent reminder. Brock takes a chance by including "Population Minus One," a song that features spoken verses and a singing chorus. That doesn't always work, but Brock manages to pull it off without leaving a cheesy residue on the CD. No doubt about it, Chad Brock is a vocalist who continues to entertain with his third album.
