Née en 1957 en Caroline du Nord, Lionel Shriver a fait ses études à New York. Diplômée de Columbia, elle a été professeur avant de partir parcourir le monde. Elle a notamment vécu en Israël, à Bangkok, à Nairobi et à Belfast. Après Il faut qu'on parle de Kevin (Belfond, 2006 ; J'ai Lu, 2008), lauréat de l'Orange Prize en 2005, La Double Vie d'Irina (Belfond, 2009), Double faute (Belfond, 2010) et Tout ça pour quoi (Belfond, 2012 ; J'ai Lu, 2014), Big Brother est son cinquième roman traduit en français. Lionel Shriver vit à Londres avec son mari, jazzman renommé.
