Library Journal
This catalog edited by Cogeval (Edouard Vuillard) and Bosoni (Max Huber) accompanies an exhibition curated and mounted by the Montreal Museum of Fine Arts. In eight chapters of explanation and discussion, various experts review and detail a specific area e.g., architecture, modern art of Italian design in the 20th century. Following this are nearly 300 pages of illustrative examples explicating the points made by the various discussants. The volume, arranged chronologically into four definitive periods of cultural discourse, is well produced, with heavy glossy paper and crisp photographs in both color and black and white. But the discussions, each penned by a different person, do not flow very well, nor are the essays tied together in any coherent fashion. This is a volume for an art catalog collection, but it is not particularly accessible or engaging to the more general reader or artist.
