Overview

Recorded for a PBS fundraising special on one of their first ever North American shows, Il Volo Takes Flight: Live from the Detroit Opera House is the first live album from Il Volo, the Italian teenage trio dubbed as the Three Tenors meets the Jonas Brothers. Produced by Grammy-winner Humberto Gatica (Michael Bublé) and Italian composer Tony Renis, it features eight performances of tracks from their self-titled Billboard Top Ten debut, including "E Piu' Ti Penso," the medley of Morricone themes from Once Upon a Time in America and Malena, an emotive take on Charlie Chaplin's "Smile," and two songs that allude to their American Idol connections in the shape of the Diane Warren-penned "La Luna Hizo Esto," a bilingual duet with 2011 finalist Pia Toscano, and the bossa nova-tinged reworking of "'O Sole Mio" that launched them to fame in both the U.S. and their homeland. Elsewhere, there are new recordings of Neapolitan classics such as "Funiculi' Funicula'," "Non Ti Scordar di Me," and "Mattinata," and expressive renditions of Agustín Lara's "Granada" and Jimmy Fontana's "Il Mondo," all of which showcase their impressively mature and warm romantic tones in front of a lush 66-piece orchestra and a receptive sellout crowd. A far more authentic proposition on record than their older counterparts, Il Divo, Live from the Detroit Opera House shows that Il Volo are just as convincing on-stage.

Well I first heard of and listened to Il Volo was passing the tv when thePBS special was on. It cought my ear and I started to listento these young men, Their ages amazed me and the smooth delivery and blending of their voices took me away, Unusual for one thing I do not listen to opera and not very much classical and I have never been a fan of any group or person. I was swept away and I wanted it to last. The interviews at the end showed all the charm of these boys. they were 15 when they first started to sing together and now they were 17 . Of course it did not hurt that the Detroit Opera house is one of the finest venues to have. I have bought about 10 DVD and one CD. I give them to friends. And I listen to them everyday . and watch the DVD 3 times a week. If you knew how old I was you might laugh I am totally hooked. Their fan base is world wide!. Buy this and see for your self. Many women like me have said the same thing. They have many many men fans also.

I purchased the CD after watching them on PBS.  They have extraordinary voices for such young men.  I have 2 CDs one for my car and one at home for my Bose. They are incredible, have tickets to see them in Boston on 14 Sep.  I am simply  enchanted by their voices.
