Overview

In the two years since he released Halfway Between the Gutter and the Stars, Norman "Fatboy Slim" Cook has been a busy man -- touring the world, releasing the mix set Live on Brighton Beach, and contending with fatherhood. In lieu of a new album, Fatboy aims to satiate his fans' hunger for new tracks with a trio of remix EPs that deliver fresh spins on familiar themes -- plus one previously unreleased cut per disc. For Illuminati, Cook introduces the title cut, a blazing, siren-heavy fist-pumper with assistance from Bootsy Collins. Elsewhere, Fatboy handed tapes over to German trance producer Timo Maas, DJ/producer extraordinaire Pete Heller, former Underworld DJ Darren Emerson, and garage duo Stanton Warriors for new interpretations. Heller's "Song for Shelter," in particular, stretches the original to its breaking point, looping Roland Clark's "I Get Deep" sample in infinite ways for a sweaty, propulsive, dance floor–ready mix. Fans won't want to miss the other two equally enticing volumes: Camber Sands and The Pimp.
