Overview

PCs are leaving the stores and landing on desktops faster than ever. Unfortunately, while PC technology has improved, the reference material included with most new PCs has not. Now you can throw away that jargon-filled owner's manual and replace it with Illustrated Computer Dictionary For Dummies, 4th Edition. Acclaimed computing authors Dan and Sandra Gookin take readers by the hand and lead them on a journey through their new toy (uh, I mean tool). Illustrated Computer Dictionary For Dummies, 4th Edition covers all the terms new ( and old) users want to know about in a humorous and typical Gookin and For Dummies style.

Computer guru Dan Gookin, the best-selling author of all editions of DOS For Dummies and Word . . .For Dummies, and PCs For Dummies, and his wife Sandra, make it simple for computer users to understand topics like ASCII, Java, Active X, Fatal Error, Plug and play, PPP and hundreds of others. Explains how to properly use terms pronounce them and even gives users some history.
The 4th Edition includes the new developments in computing since the last edition including Pentium III, Xeon and Athlon processors, DSL, XML, XHTML, and many more.
Includes new illustrations, helping the user understand the jargon with some fun thrown in.

Booknews
An informative and hilarious dictionary of plain-English explanations of terms, acronyms, and technologies. Fun entries and silly illustrations poking fun at computer geeks are interspersed with brief definitions of simple and advanced terms. For instance, the colon (:) is illustrated with a picture of General Colin Powell. Tee hee. Icons identify terms related to the Internet, Windows, and Macintosh.
