    Enlightening!

Great book for a great price. For those wanting more in-depth explanations on signs and symbols, this is what you're looking for. The chapters are well organized with beautiful graphics and images. This book draws together the ancient meanings of symbols with the trials and relations of modern-day life. There are new facts for everyone in this book. Useful for research or just some fun reading.

Very informative, almost a complete encyclopedia of signs, symbols, and dream interpretation

The is one of the most powerful books i have ever read, simply amazing that so much information could be crammed into such a small book. Although i have numerous other texts on the subject, none are as detailed and thorough as this book. The only drawback might be that there are simply too many symbols presented for complete details on the usage and meaning of each throughout various cultures and time periods. For that though, there is always the Internet, and this book is an excellent tool for mental stimulation.

More about dreams, less on symbols and signs!

I gave this as a gift to my anthropology major daughter home from college. She read more than I did, but she summed it up as very basic symbols and more about dreams which she felt was redundant from many other dream interpretation books. Writing about dreams is something that no one can be an expert on anyway, since there is no proof what we dream is actually what we project or what is weighing on us as we fall asleep. It is all conjecture. The symbology section is what she was more interested in seeing and wanted it to be good, but said it definitely is not an authoritative reference book she'd cite for a research paper. She wanted more grave and burial, cave drawings, or ceremonial symbols listed by culture, religion, or era in history. This definitely is not that. You assume an 'encyclopedia' , as it is named, would include EVERYTHING and list references, origins, multiple meanings, and if still used.

It is a fun read, bathroom fodder for quick (or longer! Ha!) diversion, or bedside quick read to fall asleep and give inspiration when nodding off!
