Editorial Reviews

From Barnes & Noble
The Barnes & Noble Review
On deadline? No time to learn the “best” way to get the job done with Illustrator 10? Think again.

Illustrator 10 Shop Manual was conceived, developed, and written for you, the working graphics professional. One tool, menu item, and palette at a time, Steve Kurth walks through the entire program, showing exactly what you need to know about every feature. These bite-size discussions are numbered and cross-referenced for quick, easy reference -- with dozens of “Issues to Consider” and “Mistakes to Avoid” sections designed to keep you on the right track and out of trouble.

Want to know about trim marks? Kurth doesn’t just define them, he explains how they differ from crop marks (they’re editable as vector shapes, meaning they can be moved, and you can use multiple sets on a page -- perfect for, say, imposing a series of business cards on the same page).

Want to know about gradient meshes? Again, Kurth doesn’t merely define them: He tells you what happens if you print them to non-PostScript Level 3 devices, how they handle spot colors, and that it’s really cumbersome to convert them back to objects (something that’s best discovered before it’s too late).

Editing, objects, transformations, color and view controls, actions, brushes, layers, strokes, symbols, transparency, libraries -- if it’s in Illustrator, it’s in here. We’ve seen several outstanding Illustrator books (Deke McClelland’s Real World Adobe Illustrator 10 comes to mind). But we’ve never seen this much useful Illustrator information distilled this well.
