I'm Diggin' It

Editorial Reviews

Barnes & Noble - David McGee
The most impressive thing about Alecia Elliott is not that she was born on Christmas Day 1982 -- which makes her all of 17 right now, folks -- but that she is a product of the sacred ground of Muscle Shoals, Alabama. Her debut album may have been recorded in Nashville, but her husky, seductive voice, gritty beyond its tender years, betrays those roots. Of all the teen phenoms suddenly emerging in country music, Elliott may well have the best shot at building a Trisha Yearwood-like portfolio of style informed by substance. The edgy, blues-tinged title cut and the soaring power ballad that precedes it, "Every Heart," may be polar opposites, the former demanding attitude ...

The edgy, blues-tinged title cut and the soaring power ballad that precedes it, "Every Heart," may be polar opposites, the former demanding attitude and sultriness, the latter open-hearted pop belting, but Elliott knocks both of them out of the park like Mark McGwire sitting on a fastball. While not every song here is a gem, the performances demand attention. This could be the start of something big. And memo to Alecia: Lose those clunky shoes.
All Music Guide - Maria Konicki Dinoia
Teen mania has hit the country in the last year, especially with books, movies, and pop music all dedicated to the market that has billions in disposable income. Now it has officially swept Nashville off of its feet with the likes of LeAnn Rimes, Lila McCann, and newcomer Alecia Elliott. A teenager sheerly by her age, Alecia Elliott sings of subjects way beyond her years. I'm Diggin' It appeals to a much older audience although the album's packaging is very hip with songs like "I Don't Understand," which is about girls living on the street, crack, and a dad leaving his three kids; and "Some Say I'm Running," which was previously recorded by the incomparable and very adult Martina McBride on 1997's Evolution. It's no wonder her years befuddle her youth, having previously taken the stage with many country greats like Loretta Lynn, Brenda Lee, Pam Tillis Collin Raye, and Joe Diffie. What I'm Diggin' It does offer is a talented teen with a big voice who is destined to be a country music entertainer.

    Surprisingly Great

I just wish more teenagers in the U.S. would listen to singers like Alecia Elliott instead of listening to Britney Spears all the time. This album by Alecia Elliott is just amazing. Songs like I'm Waiting for You, Every Heart, That's the Only Way, Say You Will, and Some Say I'm Running are beautiful songs. This CD will make a great gift for young girls in the U.S. and music lovers like me.
