Read by the author

From Lewis Black, the uproarious and perpetually apoplectic New York Times-bestselling author and Daily Show regular, comes a ferociously funny book about his least favorite holiday, Christmas.

Editorial Reviews

From Barnes & Noble

According to Daily Show regular Lewis Black (Me of Little Faith), peace on earth and good will to all men are radically overrated. In his new book, he riffs on Christmas with a ferocious misanthropy that would make even the early Scrooge envious. Almost every tradition and aspect of his least favorite holiday rouses his bile. Reading the book, you come to understand why his boss Jon Stewart called him "the only person I know who can actually yell in print." Hilarious commentary by a perpetually apoplectic author.

Publishers Weekly
Vituperative standup comedian Black (Me of Little Faith) delivers a caustic Christmas diatribe. Warning readers to ignore the book if they have a deep attachment to Christmastime, he notes, "This book contains, like the celebration of Christmas, only 2 percent religion. Think of it as the yuletide equivalent of low-fat milk." After recalling how he argued with the editor who urged him to write a Christmas book, Black delivers a full-scale Scrooge-styled screed. With chapters such as "Meditations of a Jewish Santa," "The Hooker at Rockefeller Center," and "The Carol from Hell," he rips into such seasonal traditions as Christmas cards, dinners, toys, advertising ("a primal scream of sales"), shopping ("Why don't you folks wait until the 26th of December when things are the cheapest?"), trees ("something magical about a Christmas tree all dazzled up in lights... almost as breathtaking as a hooker gone wild in spangles"), carols ("A shower is a place for singing, and on Christmas, it's where you should be caroling"), and gifts: "At Chanukah we get nothing. We don't even get stockings." With digressions on the human comedy and his personal life, Black spews forth much invective, but successfully exposes societal truths with riotous ripostes. (Nov.)

    GREAT FUN READ

Reading Lewis Black is almost as good as seeing him in person. And, in addition to regaling us of his Christmas Day visits, he shows his softer side as he describes traveling to Iraq and Afghanistan with the 2007 USO Christmas Tour. Thoroughly enjoyed him, as usual, and the peek inside the USO tours for the military.

    lewis black funny as always

I read this over new years, after being totally exhausted with all of the Christmas commercialization that started around Halloween here in the Philadelphia area. I was totally turned off by Christmas advertising this year for some reason, and reading this book was just what I needed. I felt that Lewis Black was talking directly to me.. If you feel this way, then read this book, and maybe you'll feel that Lewis Black is speaking directly to you toooo!!!!

Once again, Mr. Black dreams another nightmare...

Written as only Mr. Black can do, this book about Christmas written by a self professed "Jewwwww" is at times grouchy, campy, and heartwarming. He is one of my favorite grumpy old men, and this book bears that out. The ending material will delight and surprise...touching, but still rife with Lew-isms!

    I Also Recommend:

Off topic at times, but still funny

I was intrigued by the prospect of Christmas traditions snd stories interpeted by someone who does not celebrate the holidsy and knowing that the someone who would be interpreting the meaniong of the season was the hilarious and sour natured Lewis Black made the sale for me. However, there were times that he would make a brief reference to Christmas and then go into a story that had very little to do with the holiday. Most of those stories were still funny, but some of them were not very funny. For example, when he talked about the falling apart of his marriage, I felt so sorry for the man. I listened to the audio version of this book because I thought it was important to hear the comedian's voice in any comedy book. I figure that all of the actual stories about Christmas could have made the book half as long. He is still a great comedian, but his book about religion is better.
