Editorial Reviews

Children's Literature - Marilyn Courtot
In the series "I'm Going to Read!" there are titles set at 50 words, 100 words, etc., for the various levels of books in the set. This title is a level 1 book with up to fifty words. The very easy to read story involves Little Monster who is making a trip to the bakery to pick up a cake. It is going to be a surprise party, so he and his friends hide behind a couch and when Big Monster arrives they all shout—"Happy Monster Day." I think the illustrator was a little out of synch with the text, because the outside of the house is decorated with balloons so anyone arriving would not be very surprised that there was a party inside. The words are listed across the tops of the pages, while the actual story runs along the bottom of the pages. The opening pages discuss the levels and their objectives, and the extensive note to parents describes a variety of ways to use the Word Bank and offers suggestions for other activities. Part of the larger "Word Bank" series. Reviewer: Marilyn Courtot

    Wonderful First Reader!!

My son loves this book. He just learned to read and these books are his favorites. He loves the set, but this one is his favorite. It was the first book he read all by himself. They are easy and great for building confidence in new readers.
