Overview

What is Clare Wingate doing? One minute she's suffering in a pretty-in-pink gown she'll never wear again, and the next thing she knows it's morning . . . and she has the nastiest hangover of her life.

To make matters worse, she's wearing nothing but a spritz of Escada and lying next to Sebastian Vaughan . . . her girlhood crush turned sexy, globe-hopping journalist. Somewhere between the toast and the toss of the bouquet she'd gotten herself into a whole lot of trouble.

Clare had the right to go wild—after all, she'd been knocked off her dyed-to-match shoes after finding her own fiancé in a compromising position with the washing machine repairman. Clearly her society wedding is off.

But Sebastian pushed all the wrong buttons—and some of the right ones, too. Clare is in no mood for love—not even for lust—and wants to forget about Sebastian and his six-pack abs ASAP. But he isn't in the mood to go away, and his kiss is impossible to forget.

I'm In No Mood For Love
Chapter One

The first time Clare Wingate found herself in a strange bed, she'd been twenty-one, the victim of a bad breakup and too many Jell-O shooters. The love of her life had dumped her for a blond art student with an impressive rack, and Clare had spent the night at Humpin' Hannah's, holding down the bar and nursing her broken heart.

The next morning she woke in a bed smelling of patchouli oil and staring up at a poster of Bob Marley, the guy snoring beside her drowning out the pounding in her head. She hadn't known either where she was or the snoring guy's name. She hadn't stuck around long enough to ask.

Instead, she'd grabbed her clothes and bolted. As she'd driven home in the cruel light of morning, she told herself there were worse things in life than random sexual encounters. Bad things like flunking out of college or getting caught in a burning building. Yeah, those were bad. Still, a one-night stand wasn't for her. It had left her feeling disgusted and disturbed. But by the time she reached her apartment, she'd chalked the whole thing up to a learning experience. Something a lot of young women did. Something to learn from, and something that was good to know for the future. Something she vowed would never happen again.

Clare had not been raised to reach for a shot glass and a warm body to make herself feel better. No, she'd been raised to curb her impulses and contain her feelings behind a perfect facade of warm smiles, kind words, and impeccable manners. Wingates did not drink too much, talk too loud, or wear white shoes before Memorial Day. Ever. They did not wear their hearts on the sleeves of their cashmere sweater sets, and they most certainly did not jump into bed with strangers.

Clare may have been raised on restraint, but she'd been born a romantic. In the pit of her soul she believed in love at first sight and instant attraction, and had a bad habit of leaping into relationships before she looked. She seemed destined to suffer repeated heartache, painful breakups, and the occasional drunken one nighter.

Fortunately, by her late twenties she'd learned to put into practice the restraint she'd been taught. For her reward, at the age of thirty-one, destiny blessed her and she met Lonny. The love of her life. The man she'd met at a Degas exhibit, and who swept her off her feet. He was beautiful and romantic and not in the least like the heartbreakers she'd dated in the past. He remembered birthdays and special occasions, and was brilliant when it came to floral arrangements. Clare's mother loved him because he knew how to use a tomato server. Clare loved him because he understood about her work and left her alone when she was under a deadline.

After a year of dating, Lonny moved into Clare's home, and they spent the next year in total sync. He loved her antique furniture, and they both loved pastels and had a passion for texture. They never fought or even argued. There was no emotional drama with Lonny, and when he asked her to marry him, she'd said yes.

Lonny really was the perfect man. Well. .. except for his low sex drive. Sometimes he didn't want sex for months at a time, but really, she told herself, not all men were horn dogs.

Or so she believed, right up to the moment she'd rushed home unexpectedly the day of her friend Lucy's wedding and found him in flagrante delicto with the Sears service technician. It had taken her several stunned moments to process what was happening on the floor of her walk-in closet. She'd stood there with her great-grandmother's pearls in hand, too shocked to move, while the man who'd fixed her Maytag the day before rode her fiancé like a cowboy. And none of it seemed quite real until Lonny glanced up and his shocked brown gaze met hers.

"I thought you were sick," she'd said stupidly, and then, without another word, gathered up the hem of her silk and tulle bridesmaid's dress and ran from the house. The drive to the church was a blur, and she'd been forced to spend the rest of the day in a pink puff of a dress, smiling like her life hadn't jumped the rails and sailed off a cliff.

While Lucy read her vows, Clare felt her heart break piece by piece. She'd stood at the front of the church, smiling as she fell apart inside until she was hollow and empty, except for the pain squeezing her chest. At the wedding reception, she pushed the corners of her mouth up and raised a glass to her friend's happiness. She felt it was her duty to make a suitable toast, and she did. She would rather have died than ruin Lucy's day with her own problems. She just had to remember not to get toasted. She told herself that one small glass of champagne wouldn't hurt. It wasn't like knocking back straight shots of whiskey, after all.

Too bad she listened to herself.

Before she opened her eyes the morning after Lucy's wedding, a feeling of déjà vu crept into her pounding head. It was a feeling she hadn't experienced in years. Clare peeked through scratchy eyelids at morning light falling through a wide crack in the heavy curtains and spilling onto the gold and brown quilt weighing her down. Panic tightened her throat, and she quickly sat up, the sound of her pulse beating in her ears. The quilt slid down her bare breasts and fell to her lap.

Within the lighter shadows of the room, her gaze took in the king-sized bed, a hotel desk, and wall lamps. In the armoire across from her, a Sunday morning news program was on television, the sound turned down so low she could. . .

    Not So Much

This was a reread for me. I gotta say the more I'm rereading all these Rachel Gibson the more I am thinking she had a few that were mheh. These author books are kind of boring. I like the element of them knowing each other since they were kids but this book was so easy for me to put down without the anxiety of wanting to know what happens next. Not a good sign. It was just okay.

In her thirties, romance writer Clare Wingate thinks nothing of it that her live in lover Lonny has a low sex drive until she came home unexpectedly to see him making love with a Sears technician a male technician that is. Stunned she still has to wear a pink bridesmaid dress as she has her best friend Lucy¿s wedding to attend that night. Unable to not down the champagne though she knows better from bitter experience, Clare drinks too much. The next morning she wakes up stunned in a hotel room with a stud sleeping next to her, an act she had not done in years. Even more shocking he calls her Claresta, a name only her mom uses. She recognizes that she slept with her childhood friend investigative reporter Sebastian Vaughn, who always challenged her to games and won all their contests. They are attracted to one another, but she is embarrassed by her actions and he is not sure whether he wants a friendship or a romance as he believes you cannot have both. --- I¿M IN NO MOOD FOR LOVE is an amusing contemporary romance in which the lead couple¿s doubts about what type of relationship to forge seems forced as both have the hots starting with her drunken binge through the morning after until the climax (pun intended). The lead duo is a likable pair as they struggle with their careers, their romance, and her truly martinet mother. Fans of lighthearted tales, in which the ¿Maytag man isn¿t the loneliest guy in town¿ will want to read this delightful humorous romp. --- Harriet Klausner

    More like 3 1/2 stars

So this book compared to some of her other ones was definitely not one of the better ones, but it's still better than some of the other chick-lit books I've read by other authors. I admit this book started off slow, and it didn't get interesting until the latter half. I liked how the main characters already had a history so it didn't feel like their relationship started abruptly, but then there was no real development or turning point that made me believe the main female character should change her mind about love. So their hook up was too much of a surprise. I felt like the author needed more pages to develop their relationship, and I would have liked to see more on the main characters' relationships with their parents. Nevertheless, I still love Rachel Gibson and will definitely more read of her books.

    Cute.

Cute book! It was nice to read this light-hearted book after the darker book that I just finished.

    Nah....

I did not enjoy this book. I usually find Rachel Gibson to be entertaining, but this one definitely fell short. I did not care for the main character, and could not relate to her in any way. I also didn't like that they were just "friends with benefits", then BAM they suddenly were in love and that was that. If someone were to ask me what this book was about i wouldn't know what to say.

I'm In No Mood For Love - and she meant it!

I enjoy reading Rachel Gibson. She has a smart, funny, and witty writing style that attracts me to her books. Although I must confess that I'm In No Mood For Love wasn't my favorite. The build up story of Sex, Lies, and Online Dating was a great read and I think it left me expecting more out of this follow up book.

I'm In No Mood For Love was true to its word. I don't think the author was quite in the mood to write a romance till the last quarter of the book!

Disappointing compared to her othe books

If you've read all her other books, then you will definitely be disappointed in this one. I couldn't wait for this book to come out and when I finally read it, I was extremely disappointed. If her other books had been like this, I wouldn't have kept reading her. She is a great writer, but this book was seriously lacking.

    Repeated Scenes

This book was entertaining but it including many of the same conversations or wording from her other books, especially See Jane Score. That disappointed me because the scenes weren't original.

Rachel Gibson I love how you write!

Yet again you have mastered true romance writing in 'I'm In No Mood For Love'. Your characters come to life as if I'm watching a movie in my head. Your incorporation of past characters from your previous book(s) is a welcome surprise. Keep pushing that refrigerator up the mountain!

    Nothing like her previous novels

If Rachel Gibson is going to publish her books at a fast pace, the quality will be compromised. The story was blah, like so many other books around.

Bad book. What's up with all the bad books these days?

My god this is a dumb series about??? Writers. Rachel Gibson is scraping the bottom of the barrel with these books. Totally boring and predictable. And there is still another dumb writer in the circle of friends to get hooked up. Lame. I used to look forward to the next book from Gibson. I have no intention to read another one of hers. The last book was so dumb. This one was even worse. I can't imagine the next will be any good.

    Oh poo

Ive read several of rachel G.'s books, but this one kinda sucked. I was hoping for a little more 'umph'. You know? The story line was kinda dragging and i didnt really like the girl in this one. She seemed a little prudish to me which ruins the whole 'love' scenes. So, im hoping for a better one next time.

    Awesome book

I¿m In No Mood For Love by Rachel Gibson is a delight from page one. It¿s funny, sexy and moving. Clare Wingate tried to put on a happy face at her friends wedding. But she can¿t get the image of finding her fiancé with another man out of her mind. Clare decides to tie one on and wakes up in bed with Sebastian Vaughan her childhood crush. Something about Sebastian brings out the sultry side in Clare. After the disastrous end to her engagement she thinks a fling just might be the thing she needs. Award winning journalist Sebastian is home to visit with his estranged father. He wasn¿t expecting to rescue old buddy Clare. Sebastian thinks too a fling would be a perfect fit with his globe trotting life style. These tow think they are in no mood for love but fate has a few tricks up its sleeves. I¿m In No Mood For Love continues the story started in Sex, Lies and Online Dating. It was a treat to reconnect with Clare and her writer friends. This book will stay with you long after you finish, the chemistry and emotions tug at your soul. I can¿t wait to see what is up with the next friend

    not her usual standards

I've really enjoyed Gibson's books in the past but this one just wasn't that great. The romance didn't get started until at least halfway through. It was just really slow, then all of the sudden they were dating and in love and the story ended. Don't Buy!
