Think you're having a rough week? Bella's stepdad, a semi-pro wrestler, just signed the entire family up for a reality TV show. Bella's first thought: Kill. Me. Now. Living in Truman, Oklahoma wasn't 100% miserable for Bella. Sure, she misses Manhattan, couture clothes, and her dad. But she was making new friends at Truman High and almost enjoying her work at the school newspaper. Then the whole stepdad-wrestler-reality-show issue hit and her life is now being splashed across weekly tabloids and broadcast news. As if having a camera crew following her around isn't bad enough, Bella soon discovers a conspiracy against the Truman High prom queen candidates. And the closer she gets to the answer, the more danger she's in. As her relationship with Luke teeters between friendship and romance, Bella's ex-boyfriend Hunter reappears and vies for Bella's attention. Denying allegations of a love triangle, working to solve the prom queen mystery, and trying to keep her cool on national television finally motivate Bella to start talking—and listening—to God more. But what comes next has Bella once again screaming: I'M. SO. SURE.

School Library Journal - Audio
Gr 6–9—Seventeen-year-old Manhattan transplant Bella Kirkwood is still adjusting to her new life in Truman, Oklahoma. Sure, she's made new friends in Lindy and Anna, and her position on the school newspaper is rewarding, even if her working relationship with Luke, the editor, is frustrating. She's even at peace with her ex-socialite mom marrying a semi-pro wrestler. Just as things are starting to look up, Bella's life takes some unexpected turns. Her stepfather, Jake, is competing in a reality television show for a chance to become a professional wrestler. While Bella deals with unwanted camera crews, her father announces his intent to marry his latest girlfriend. As if things aren't bad enough, Bella's ex-boyfriend, Hunter, re-enters her life, complicating her already confusing feelings for Luke. On top of it all, when someone begins sabotaging the school's prom plans, it's up to Bella to discover the culprit and get her life back in order in front of a nationwide audience. In Bella, Jenny B. Jones has created a realistic, likable, confident, and emotionally grounded character who is not afraid to rely on her faith to help her get through difficult situations. Bella's belief and trust in God is an integral part of who she is; it's natural and unforced, which makes her faith seem like a genuine extension of her character. The novel (Thomas Nelson, 2009) is voiced by Brooke Sanford Heldman who does a good job of distinguishing each character. A solid addition to library collections.–Audrey Sumser, Cuyahoga County Public Library,

Meet the Author

Jenny B. Jones writes Christian Fiction with equal parts wit, sass, and untamed hilarity. When she’s not writing, she’s living it up as a high school teacher in Arkansas. Since she has very little free time, she believes in spending her spare hours in meaningful, intellectual pursuit such as watching E!, going to the movies and inhaling large buckets of popcorn, and writing her name in the dust on her furniture.
