Overview

Shifting from Mule Music to Endless Flight for its third volume, this entry in the I'm Starting to Feel OK series, with selections assembled by Toshiya Kawasaki but recombined into a flowing mix by KZA, is an enjoyable listen that may frustrate those wanting to hear the original songs in full -- not as technical a point as might be thought, given that many of the tracks were exclusive to the mix, at least at the time of release. Regardless, KZA's abilities at a mostly smooth mix, a jarring moment or two aside, end up being the overall calling card for this disc, and a good one, drawing together a variety of current styles for multiple contexts, not as elegantly contemplative as the neo-Ibiza crowd but neither as wound up and wired as other efforts, either. (Though Prins Thomas of the former group turns up with a remix of Force of Nature's "To the Brain.") The hyperactive rolling drum breakdown at the end of Soft Rocks' instrumental version of "Essa" and the rock guitar riffing of Wil Rumps' "Kazan" make for individual standouts in the larger whole, but that whole is the real reason to tune in.
