Editorial Reviews

School Library Journal
K-Gr 3 This is an excellent view of a parent in a professional role told through the eyes of a kindergarten-aged girl. Respect for her mother's profession and her faith are conveyed aptly by the enthusiastic Rebecca. The duties of a Rabbiofficiating at Sabbath services, performing weddings, providing counseling, and giving solace are all described. The sepia-toned illustrations capture the child's perspective and are full of the joy and love shared by the mother and daughter. A glossary explains Hebrew words and Jewish holidays mentioned in the text. Like My Mother the Mail Carrier (Feminist Pr, 1976), this book may be used to show alternative careers for women. Micki Nevett, Temple Beth Emeth Library, Albany, N.Y.
