An enjoyable great read from a highly intelligent author

This is a great novel by a highly intelligent author with a quirky, sardonic sense of humor and a gift of nuance. The title of her first book Imago (which has two sequels of which I am also planning to read) is an entomological term that refers to the sexually mature adult stage of an insect after metamorphosis (Also alludes to the change the protagonist of the novel is about to undergo) Ms. Libal is obviously quite adept in the world of animals and plant biology.

The story deals with a struggling and inept young, female apsiring writer named Jacine whose life and being, much like an insect is about to enter a metamorphosis. Little does she know that her absurdly unimaginative writing ability is causing a disturbance in another world of fairys, goblins and other mystical creatures. Jacine's world is turned upside down with a visit by magical beings who plan on stopping her from unwittingly destroying their world.

The diminutive goblin-like emissaries named Biali and Mordecai (who happens to be Jewish) are not the only witty characters in the story. There is Jacine's reliable but unappreciated boyfriend Marcus, the mysterious Kline and Felter, two elderly books store proprietor who happen to be key in Jacine's problems. Mr. Felter, a verbose but kindly old man is a kind of sage to the mystical realm. The story only gets better as we journey with Jacine and her hilarious dilemmas continually facing her.

I would highly recommend this novel to anyone who has every struggled with writer's block, loves animals and just wants to read a highly enjoyable and quirky story written by an extremely brilliant, witty, author. I can't wait to read the next two sequels and hoping for more afterwards.
