Editorial Reviews

Children's Literature
This fifteen-year-old treasure gets a well-deserved polishing in this reissue as an oversize picture book. A lucky new generation of young readers will get to meet title character Imogene, who is far more delighted than the rest of her family when she wakes up one morning sporting a full rack of antlers. Her mother faints, her brother conducts investigatory research, the doctor examines and the principal frowns disapprovingly. But it is the cook and the irrepressible Imogene herself who find innovative and beneficial applications for her new headgear. Enchanting and whimsical in both narrative and watercolor illustration, David Small's story is a classic that invites child and adult readers alike to celebrate difference, diversity, and downright silliness! 2000 (orig. 1985), Crown Publishers/Random House, $17.99 and $15.95. Ages 5 to 10. Reviewer: Judy Katsh
From the Publisher
"Hilarious." --School Library Journal, Starred

"A dazzling attraction."--Publishers Weekly

    Highly recommended!

My six year old granddaughter got this book out of the school library and read it over and over. It became her favorite book; so we now have our own copy. It is so ridiculous that it is funny. We have also purchased several other David Small books and they are all delightful and perfect for a beginning reader.

    I Also Recommend:

    Absolutely Delightful

This is a wonderful all-ages treat. The illustrations are bright and colorful. The story will have kids laughing out loud. I highly recommend it for classrooms; students can follow the story with an art project in which they imagine themselves with some funny animal attributes.

    Excellent for preschoolers

My mother-in-law picked this one up at a second hand store. I had never heard of it, but I love the humor in it. My 2 1/2 year old loves it. She can't put it down.
