The Essengar have a ban that does not permit aliens to land on their world. Megan is shocked to receive an invite and to see her former Essengar partner and lover, Einar, again. A former tracker of the psi corps, Megan was forced by the Alliance to place her unborn child in stasis. When Einar informs Megan their child was removed and birthed by a surrogate, she is furious.
Once she learns the reason she has been summoned, all bets are off. Megan is offered the opportunity to become Einar's wife and to see her child.
Let the negotiations begin.
Impassioned explains the presence of another alien race on Terra logged in the annals of earth myths, legends, and folklore. The Essengar are dead ringers for the Norse gods. The early presence of berserkers and magic is explained by way of the Essengar's psi powers.
Megan is a tough, no-nonsense type who is honest with her feelings in regard to Einar. She doesn't waste time becoming reacquainted with Einar who is more than happy to accommodate her. The Essengar's xenophobic attitude and aggression is insane, which is why it's nice to have a heroine who is more than willing to get her hands dirty in the fray. It makes for a great read when you have a protagonist who can verbally dish it out and back up her threats with skills. In comparison, Einar is a pussycat, though a perfect match. Like Megan, he has his `nastier' side under control, and when he doesn't, well, his new wife knows what to do to keep him in line.
This story gets to the point with all the surprises in the open. The best part is they`re unique and unexpected. I would have liked to know more about Meg's and Einar's history but I could appreciate the wedding scene, and how the Essengar honor them. It's creative, inventive, and amazing! All the qualities you want in a good sci-fi series tale. Impassioned is a sparkler!
