Purpose: The purpose is to compel clinicians to learn more about evidence-based practice (EBP) and to initiate evidence-based care. This is worthwhile purpose with the emphasis in healthcare on providing evidence-based care. These stories are designed to compel resistant clinicians to begin the evidence-based journey.
Audience: The target audience is clinicians interested in becoming more proficient with providing evidence-based care. Both authors are experts in the field of evidence-based practice.
Features: The book is organized around the EBP paradigm conceptual framework and the seven steps of the EBP process developed by the authors. Sections of the book include how to foster a spirit of inquiry in healthcare, how EPB improves care, the importance of combining patient preferences and values with expertise and external evidence as clinical decisions are made, the impact of EBP on outcomes, the effect of teamwork when implementing EBP, and how to mentor and teach others about EBP. The stories serve to show the EBP concepts in action. The authors note that there are no references in the book because these are stories.
